Laurie McCalla is the Department Administrator for the Michigan State University Department of Surgery, providing strategic and operational leadership for a complex academic surgery enterprise that includes clinical practice, education, research, and affiliated healthcare partnerships. In this role, she oversees key departmental operations, including the MSU Aesthetic & Laser Treatment Center, and works closely with physician and executive leadership to advance organizational growth and operational excellence.
A respected healthcare operations administrator, Laurie has nearly four decades of experience in academic medicine, healthcare administration, financial management, and strategic planning. Throughout her career at Michigan State University, Henry Ford Health System, Karmanos Cancer Institute, and the University of Michigan, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to building high-performing teams, improving operational effectiveness, and supporting innovation across clinical and academic healthcare environments.
